Edition 127– January 2025
Dear members,
Welcome to 2025, and everything that it holds for us all. I wish you a year of
health, happiness and of course a year full of BPW.
This issue has been dedicated to some of the work that the BPW UK repre-
sentatives undertook on your behalf whilst representing you the members at the
IFBPW International Board meeting and Congress General Assembly. I have thanked
our BPW St Kitts colleagues for the very warm welcome that they extended to us,
st
and the professional way in which they had organised this 31 BPW International
Congress. It was debated and voted upon that BPW Ecuador will submit a business
plan to the IFBPW Executive Board members on the financial viability to host the
nd
32 BPW Congress in 2027. Why not start planning the trip now and joining what
can only be described as a once or twice, or more, experience of a lifetime, and get
together with our global colleagues.
But, before that, we will be sharing with you all that you need to know about
st
the 31 Congress.
As we had not been able to hold an in-person General Assembly for nearly 7
years, due to the global Covid -19 pandemic, most of the internal BPW resolutions
have been agreed to be carried over to an extra-ordinary IFBPW Board meeting to
be held virtually within six months of our 2024 General Assembly. The external reso-
lutions were debated and passed, and over the coming Wednesday webinars we will
be working on how we can ensure that they become a part of the work we do.
Before Congress began, I represented BPW UK at the Africa-Caribbean Busi-
nesswomen’s Forum, hosted by PIP Dr Amany Asfour. It was a day of insightful
speakers who were introduced by Gertrude Mongella, a Tanzanian politician who has
an incredible backstory , and has been a President of the African Union Commission
( https://www.bpw-international.org/awards/gertrude-mongella-award/ ) please see
the link for more information on this incredible woman, and BPW member. As you
may be aware I am a trustee of two schools in Nigeria; SEW member Christiana
Olomolaiye is the Chair of the charity and the daughter of the schools’ founder.
Being able to talk to women who are also from this region will not just help this
school, but it shows that when we meet, we can work globally. This is one thing that
Covid has taught us, we can work together through time zones and borders with
Zoom and Teams calls. I will be meeting with these colleagues in the coming months
and will share progress with you through the monthly newsletter.
