SUNDAY AFTERNOON
IN A CAT HOUSE
By Constance J. Stahl
A recent Sunday ago my daughter Kelly made
reservations for us to go to a cat house. She
picked me up after church and we drove to a freshly painted old house
with a sign in front. The sign read “The Great Catsby”. We went up
the few stairs to a small porch and rang the doorbell. We were let in the
foyer and our appointment time was approved. We then sanitized our
hands and went through another door into newly painted and decorated
rooms with comfy, attractive furniture that was tastefully arranged.
We were met by a Russian beauty with a leg rub. Then a Siamese
dream boat with auburn hair and blue eyes. There were other wonder-
ful looking residents sleeping or walking around the rooms. I was cho-
sen by the Siamese and sat in a comfy chair while Kelly was enter-
tained by other house residents! A young lady brought me a cup of cof-
fee and Kelly went into a kitchen to buy some packaged snacks. The
time limit is one hour and there were some more visitors waiting in the
foyer so we had to leave.
“THE GREAT CATSBY”? Is a shelter for cats and kittens that have
been abandoned and are up for adoption. It is a new business just
opened in Chico. The fee for one hour to pet a cat/kitten was $20 for
Kelly and $15 for me. There were mothers with their young daughters
and a sliding fee for them.
It was a fun afternoon and the cats/kittens were adorable. It was hard
not to try and adopt them all!
