Meet and Greet
Well, I knew there was lots going on for the BPW UK Conference 2024 in Bristol; I
didn’t know that I had a role to play until Jo asked if I could pick up a “few” people and drop
them at the conference hotel.
I should have realised this was complicated as we sat and booked the various names
into the diary. What time? Where from? Which station / airport?
After reminding Jo that we had a Volvo and not a time machine, I managed to ensure
the plan avoided clashes and that no-one would be left waiting. It was tight but possible and
as it turned out it was ok; some slight delays in public transport helped as it gave me better
gaps to collect them in. The various APPs to track arrivals worked well and enabled me to
arrive as required. Modern technology in motion.
Some of the delegates I knew and could recognise on sight; that bit was easy. How-
ever many were names I had heard over time but not met. How to recognise those? Well,
looking online to see people’s profile pictures of course! An interesting process as I found
out; people tend to use the best picture for their profile…. it helped, but only a little! More
often it was the smile and friendly persona that gave them away as they walked through ar-
rivals from planes, trains, and buses….
Once complete I could relax; the return journey was easy as I knew who I was meet-
ing to drop off. Thank you for your conversations and friendship; it was lovely to put faces
to names.
