I certainly had a great time at the reception. Marina and I were able to meet a number of peo-
ple who are involved in some interesting projects.

There were 3 speeches, the first given by Sir John Major. He spoke about the retreat of democ-
racy and the dangers of populism. The second was by Dame Louise Casey who spoke about the
importance of the Policy Institute. She also spoke about some of the work she has done on
homelessness. She would make an excellent Wednesday speaker. !

Last but not least was Julia Gillard AC, the former Prime Minister of Australia who spoke about
the reality of leadership across the world. She pointed out that the world is not run by a group
of diverse and representative people, but by men. She also spoke of her involvement with the
Global Institute for Women's Leadership where she currently serves as the Chairperson. It was
certainly a pleasure to speak to her afterwards about how she found her life after politics. She
also has a podcast called A Podcast of One's Own with Julia Gillard
