efore the ending of the year 2020, a rare astronomical incident is going to occur. About
800 years later, on the 21st of December, this astronomical event will take place which will
Bbe visible to all the countries of world.
The two largest planets will come close to each other in 397 years. On 21st December 2020, Jupi-
ter and Saturn will be only 0.1 degrees apart. This incident can be seen by the naked eye from all
over the world. With the passing of day, the gas giants will be slowly and apparently getting closer
to each other. They both made their closest and nearest approach to our planet (Earth) in July this
year. This incident has been termed as ‘conjunction’ by Dr. Deviprasad Duari. Conjunction refers
to the meeting of two planets or objects. The word conjunction describes the coming closer of
Jupiter and Saturn. It takes place every 20 years on average. They will be coming closer from third
week of December. So, let us wait for the 21st December.
