A Day at Howrah Station
his is a story before the pandemic started. Howrah Station, one of the largest and the busiest stations of West
Bengal, has always been crowded with passengers, hawkers and porters. There is always a buzzing sound at the
Tstation. The passengers stand in ong qeues to collect tickets in front of the ticket counters. There are many stalls
of peddlers, booksellers, food stalls and many more. The vendors cry out their trade cries. Who hasn’t heard ‘Chaaye
Garam’ or ‘Thanda Pani’ at the station? There are some waiting rooms in large stations as this one. The waiting rooms
are used by the passengers to wait for their trains or to take some rest before the train arrives. When a train reaches the
station, the passengers hurry to get off the train, but at the same time, the passengers waiting for the train rush to get
on. As a result chances of collision are high. Ultimately, when it is the time for departure, the train sounds its whistle.
All friends and family members of the passengers come by to see them off. Some are sad because of going far away
from their loved ones. Others are excited to go on a journey to new places. And when the whistle stops, the train starts
moving and off the passengers go.
But now the station is not as crowded as it was, because of the pandemic situation. We all hope this pandemic situation
of 2020 comes to an end and may the ever-busy Howrah station regain its glory. We all are waiting for that day to come.
