President Trump presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Tiger Woods today at the White House. The president tweeted, “Your spectacular achievements on the golf course, your triumph over physical adversity, and your relentless will to win, win, win. These qualities embody the American spirit of pushing boundaries, defying limits, and always striving for greatness.”
The first lady and White House staff attended the ceremony on the patio outside the Oval Office. Forty professional golfers were invited but all reported scheduling conflicts and could not attend. Among others who declined, the sole exception was Sean Hannity who always finds time to rub shoulders and balls with the president.
Reportedly, the president and Tiger Woods are very close and have much in common outside their love of golf. They both have cheated on their wives repeatedly. They both play golf, although one is a proven cheat. Both have overcome adversity although Mr. Trump is an expert on payoffs to assuage his hardship. And both are obsessed with winning. Mr. Woods has an edge in that he has never been accused or convicted of cheating. At golf, that is.
Tiger Woods was the youngest man and first African American to win the U.S. Masters in Augusta, Georgia in 1997 at age 21. The only place the president appears to ignore skin color is on the golf course.
