PREFACE
SUCCESS is difficult to define as it may mean different things for different people. Most will
describe it in materialistic terms of position, power, career, wealth; some differently! However, rarely
does anyone consider ‘Happiness’ as ‘Success’, although everyone will vouch that all their actions are
in its pursuit. Materialistic success is often considered precursor and prerequisite for happiness, which
is a fallacy as happiness is intrinsic and nothing from the outside can either trigger or sustain it. In
truth, ‘we’ ourselves are the biggest barrier to ‘our’ success and happiness, though we love to assign
its cause to things external!
The materialistic success manifests itself in organizations across the world and employees strive to
grow up the corporate hierarchy; some succeed, others stagnate. Several ‘excellent’ employees are
regularly by-passed by their peers or juniors? Do the astute and intelligent corporate leaders really
choose less-brilliant people? Are the companies unable or unwilling to recognize and reward talent?
Is the corporate ‘performance yardstick’ so ambiguous that an employee feels (s)he is ready for
promotion, but the bosses think differently? Is it just favoritism, racism, or gender bias? All pertinent
questions that often frustrate an employee.
Or is there something else?
