guests: the recently installed president of the

a former AGD president and a schoolmate of
mine from Georgetown; and the president of
the American Student Dental Association, Ms.
Tanya Maestas.
At the meeting the Board reviewed the council
and committee appointments of Dr. Cordero
and approved them. The Board also reviewed
the deliberations of the House, and discussed
any improvements that can be implemented
for next year.
Prior to the HOD meeting, I attended the AGD
Foundation board meeting. The foundation is
the charitable arm of the AGD and its empha-
sis is to educate the profession and the pub-
lic about oral cancer. This is the 45th year of
the foundation and the delegates were asked
to make contributions to the foundation in in-
crements of $45. There was 100% participa-
tion and over $50,000 was raised. The money
raised will be used for grants to educate the
profession and public about oral cancer. The
president of the foundation is Dr. Linda Edgar,
who is an oral cancer survivor. Oral cancer
kills approximately 10,000 people every year,
and about 50,000 new cases are diagnosed ev-
ery year.
Please consider making a donation to the AGD
Foundation.
