Founded in 1921 by Max Braun as an engineering firm which
produces parts for record players, Braun grew in popularity
through the mid-20th century for its use of plas�cs in industrial
design. The S50 was their first electric razor and was produced in
1950. In 1955, Dieter Rams joined Braun’s design team and is said
to be the creator of Braun’s world recognised styling. Dieter Rams
ran a design philosophy of Func�onal design during his �me at
Braun, Peter Shneider took over from Ram’s in 1995 and was

given the job of breaking away from the �ght design policy Ram’s
ran in order to appeal to a world wide market. Today, Braun is
headed by Prof. Oliver Grabes who is spearheading their new
design approach:
