 In HOPE We Are
L FEARLESS
ife has always brought horrifying disasters, war, violence, and catastrophes of every kind that can test our trust in a caring world. This year, living during a pandemic can be added to this list. It has been a challenging time for nurses and healthcare providers that I support and work with. The learning for them is also the same for everyone.
Often in times of uncertainty and confusion it feels like no matter how hard you try, something is bound to go wrong. For some, this sense of hopelessness is tied to depression & anxiety. In milder forms, it keeps others stuck and in a state of expecting little from life. If you believe you do not deserve much happiness
& success what’s lacking is your sense of hope. In his research Dr. J. Groopman found that hope strengthens prosperity and raises our immunity to stress and sickness.
Our brain uses hope as its power tool to rebuild after any kind of trouble, uncertainty, or fear – like a pandemic. Dr. Ellen Weber, a friend and colleague states “Hope is to our brains
what a bright light is to a dark tunnel. It’s the mental energy to remain calm in stressful situations that seem impossible. With hope we survive difficulties and can support others
in tough times since hope removes the veil over our perception and thought.” When someone is losing hope, they will find a solution if they are guided to the
deeper reality inside themselves. By shining the light into their present awareness, the fear of uncertainty begins to lessen.
To reach people and share the energy of hope, we must do more than just listen
to them; we must see them. All humans want to be seen & heard. They want validation. When people are validated, they know you hear AND see them, and that
what they are saying means something. They feel like they are not alone, and that they matter. That is the deepest reality, the deepest desire we all share – to MATTER!
That is how we make hope real for everyone – make them matter!
Better days are coming! We can use this stormy time to grow, strengthen and serve.
Do not be afraid to start over. This time you will not be starting from scratch, you are starting from expereince. If you are feeling hopeless in your current situation,
especially in your nursing career, I am here to help you find that hope and transform your life.
“May your choices reflect
your HOPE, not your fears.” Nelson Mandela
