ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INC.®
Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter
Huntsville, AL
Volume 1, Issue 5 September/October 2019
Basileus Corner
Soror Cheryl R. Davis
Greetings my beautiful EGO Sorors,
Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter was chartered March 19, 1949, on the beautiful
campus of Alabama A & M University. In 2019, we will celebrate 70 years of exemplary
service in the Huntsville/ Madison County area, the South Eastern Region, and the World!
Of our ten charter members, one, Mrs. Harriet J. Terry, was an Alpha Kappa Alpha founder.
Our chapter recently dedicated a historical marker in her honor. It is mounted on the front
lawn of Terry Hall, a women’s dormitory at Alabama A&M University where Founder Terry
taught English for 37 years. On October 13, 2019, the chapter held a Ribbon Cutting
Ceremony for the official placing of the Harriet Josephine Marker. A special “Thank You” to
the members of the planning committee, Former Chapter Basilei Council, Gamma Mu
Chapter, Omicron Zeta Chapter, and Rho Chi Omega Chapter for their participation in this
historic event.
In just 6 weeks, approximately 42 days, The Ooooh Soooo Classy Ladies of The Epsilon
Gamma Omega Chapter will present its first Rocket City Pink Gala to the Huntsville
Community in celebration of our 70th Chapter Anniversary. We will be celebrating the many
accomplishments and partnerships built during our 70 years of sisterhood and service in the
Rocket City.
We will be honoring our rich history; our only living Epsilon Gamma Omega charter
member, Mrs. Fannie Pulley Thompson; our seven former chapter basilei; and community
partners. There will be lots of food, good entertainment and dancing, too!
