TARGET 2 CAREGIVERS’ RECOGNITION
May 25, 2019; 9:00 AM
Article and Photos By: Soror Sharon Boclair
Sorors met at two facilities to show appreciation to the nursing staff. We
provided 35 gift bags of healthy snacks. In addition to our gift bags, Soror Lanita
Slaton’s 5 years old grandson, Slaton, joined us and presented his picture
drawings to the patients. As you could imagine, the patients were delighted to see
Slaton and have a group of lovely ladies in pink and green to share with them.
Our first stop was at “The Friends for the Elderly Home” owned by Ms.
Lucille Friend Holden. Ms. Holden has been providing care for elderly patients for
over 30 years. She was overwhelmed with joy and tears by the thought that
someone wanted to take time to appreciate the work that her staff provides to
others. Soror Cynthia’s mother is a patient at Lucille’s, and they made our visit
even more special when she decided to sit on her mother’s lap for “Momma and
daughter love.”
Our second stop was at “Diversicare of Big Springs Nursing Home.” There
were three nursing stations in this facility. The staff members were pleasantly
surprised when we showed up and presented them with healthy snacks. They
said, “Our visit made their day.”
Overall, our first outing was a success. Sorors took time out of their
Memorial Day weekend to appreciate caregivers, impact lives, and support our
committee’s goal.
