“I love it,” he whispers.
His eyes darken, and he looks at me like he did before we kissed. I absently lick
my lips at the memory. His eyes flicker to my lips because we are caught in the same
thought.
“I knew that would look lovely on you!” The owner, Gladys, comes from the
back with more dresses in tow – just in case. “I say we do not need to look any
further. Do you two like it?”
“Love it,” we confirm in unison.
“Great! We have two options for the shoes; you can rent or buy them.” I look
at the shoes lovingly.
“I love, love, love these shoes, but I must be honest with myself. I wouldn’t
allow myself enough opportunities to wear them.”
“What’s the price difference?” Henry wants to know.
“Huge,” I inform him without looking at the tag. “These are Rene Caovilla
shoes. With the style and material, these are easily over one-thousand.”
Henry raises a brow. “Wow, really? They are nice.”
“But…” Gladys adds. “It’s only two-hundred dollars to rent them for five days.
When is the wedding?”
“Tomorrow, so about 100 dollars a day for me.”
“Or me,” Henry offers. “You don’t have to pay for everything. I was below my
goal, but I’m not real life broke.”
I laugh at his male pride. “I’m well aware of what our engineers make, Henry.
Your salary is lofty, and I appreciate the offer. I just sold a house, remember?”
Gladys gushes. “I just love new couples.”
I check myself in the mirror once more. My make-up is similar to the night prior,
but I’ve used my metallic rose gold lipstick I purchased for the dress. My hair is tied
up and a few tendrils fall to frame my face and dust my shoulders.
I look at myself in the dress again. Sexy? Yes. Bridesmaid material? Hell, no.
I step into my pumps and peek out.
