“Uh…thank you, Tala, this is very thoughtful.” Henri looks at Carla then Tala.
“And this was the second sweetest moment?” he inquires dubiously.
“Yes.” Her glossy bob moves with her head. “Honestly, I think they only made
our vows number one since I’m paying them.”
We hug them before they give their goodbyes and leave.
“That was adorable,” my mom chimes in. “I didn’t know you sing, Henri.”
My dad grunts.
Henri shrugs and scratches his head. “I don’t, usually.”
“I always thought he was naturally talented. I made him take choir and theater
all through high school,” his mom gushes. Another thing I didn’t know about
Henri. “He dropped it in college.”
“I didn’t know either,” I tell her. Henri blushes from all the attention and
changes the subject.
“I’m gonna go buy some fireworks.” He grabs his keys from the hook on the
door.
“Wait for me.” His dad follows him, then turns. “Frank?”
My dad unfolds his arms and grabs his shades from the table. “Yup.
Fireworks. Right behind you, Pierre.”
Henri holds the door open letting the two older gentlemen walk out before
him. He looks to the sky and sighs since his attempt to be alone was just shot to
hell.
I stare at the closed door. Soon, he’s going to walk out just like that and not
come back.
