SPRING SUMME R FALLING | 207

I’d been so impressed with all the details that I was content just knowing he’d
put so much thought into our nuptials. I was no longer looking for a proposal. I
was surprised to find out that some of our friends – Chanel, Tala, Carla, Miguel,
Jerome, and Dom – were picked to be our wedding party.

After settling into the room I’d been sharing with Chanel for the night, Henri
and I had a wonderful dinner with our friends and immediate family. I was filled
with so much happiness I’d believed it couldn’t get any better.
Right after dessert, Henri excused us before we were separated from the night.
“Sorry ladies and gentlemen. I need to steal my lady for some alone time before
the separate parties tonight,” Henri announced with a kiss to my bare shoulder.
“We’ll see you all in about an hour?”

In addition to the wedding, Henri and CO. planned for the guys and girls to
have separate nights out. Our parents decided to hang out with each other instead and
            see a movie.
“Ever built a sandcastle at night?”
               “I don’t think I’ve ever built a sandcastle,” I admit.
Henri pulls me to a deserted part of the beach. “Well, now is a good time to
            change it.”
“When you said you wanted alone time, I thought you had something else in
mind,” I teased in the dark.

I sighed contently when Henri pulled me in for a kiss that ended too soon. “I
promised myself I’d behave until tomorrow night.”
               “You did. Did you?”
His eyes glimmered in the moonlight. “Yes.” He pulled me to a spot where tools to
build a castle waited for us. “Now, let’s get to work.”

I didn’t question the activity; I was happy to have some alone time to breathe.
As much as I like themes, I’m happy I didn’t have to plan our wedding.
We laugh at my first terrible attempt to get the sand to stand, but I’m a pro after
a few pointers. We’re almost finished, and I started to feel a sense pride when Henri
            segue-wayed into another topic.
“Whose condo will we be moving into?”
               “I don’t know,” I tell him. “I haven’t really thought about it. I guess it doesn’t
            matter. They’re damn near identical.”
