My Courageous Sister Pamela Diane - 'The What Comes Up, Comes Out Girl"
I want to speak about the courage of my sister, Pamela Diane Merritt, who died at 5 years of age. My sister Pam was spunky and full
of joy. She was so brave that she would be eager to receive the injections she needed to control her juvenile diabetes. At the time of her
death, research was very limited. She knew she had to have those injections, and she never shunned them. I remember the family
talking about how courageous she was about taking her injections. She never pitied her condition. She was always smiling, laughing,
and spreading her sassiness throughout the neighborhood. Folks loved to tease Pamela because she was truly outspoken and never
afraid! Although I was older, I was very shy. I never spoke freely like my sister, Pamela Diane - "The What Comes Up, Comes Out
Girl." I miss you and admire you still!
I dedicate this book to each of you - Mom, Dad, Brother, and Sis - for everything that you instilled in me as I grew up experiencing
your love, nurturing, wisdom, strength, and courage.
Thanks Again Mom, Dad, Charles, and Pam — I Love You All,
Your Daughter,
