recorded there! I was thrilled and extremely nervous at the opportunity. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, it did not work. John
was a great encourager, though!
I moved to Miami, and we dated for about seven years. We lived together without being married for that length of time. As you might
imagine, my family was not happy about this arrangement. We eventually married, and I gave birth to an adorable 9-pound baby boy.
We were very happy because I had experienced two miscarriages prior to this delivery: one was illegal (for which I asked God’s
forgiveness), and the other was through an emergency hospital visit, so a special name had to be chosen. We left the hospital with Baby
Hitchmon written on his wristband, which the hospital frowned upon, but my husband John told them, “We will report his name
to the proper governmental agency when we make a decision on our baby’s name.” After searching through a book of African names
for a couple of days, we decided on, Kamili Tajiri Hitchmon, which means “Perfect Rich Man” in Swahili, an African language. We
thought this was very fitting for this “perfect birth.”
