               Make sure you’re aligned
               with the trailer before
               coupling to it.



                                          4.  Back up to the trailer
                                          Turn on four-way flashers and sound horn.

                                          Back up slowly toward the trailer to a position directly in front of and in line
                                          with the trailer.


                                            ❏   Tractor position      • stop when the fifth wheel just touches
                                                                      the trailer apron — don’t back up too far
                                                                      • make sure you’re backing in a straight
                                                                      line, not at an angle (if you’re on an angle,
                                                                      this could push the trailer sideways and
                                                                      damage the landing gear)













               When you’re backing up,
