This knot was used by the U. S. Navy until 1962 to
 tether its lighter-than-air ships (zeppelins). Lieu-
 ZOOM  tenant Commander Charles Rosendahl, skipper          BendS
 of the zeppelin Los Angeles and American aero-
 nautical hero, reportedly allowed only one bend
 on his airship and on his mooring lines, the zep-
 pelin bend, and thus its other name.

 Bring the standing part of the second line away   Bring  the  working  end  of  the  second  line
 from the first line in the opposite direction and   through the loop in the first line and through
 across the second working end, as shown in   its  own  loop  (as  shown  in  the  photograph),
 the photograph.  forming  two  interlocked  overhands.  Tighten
        the  knot  slowly  by  pulling  on  both  standing
        parts.
