綠色課程之旅

sustainable development. The Green Guru and GCCRC ambassadors, promoting

environmental sustainability, including protecting wildlife, biodiversity of Hong Kong,
and environmental conservation. The civic education team and current affairs society

would promote social and economic sustainability.

Through these school groups and student ambassadors, ideas and adverse effects of

over consumption could be promoted to students. For example, the green guru
explained that human activities, including not recycling and poor management of

excessive municipal solid waste would alter the natural habitat for wildlife animals.

While current affairs society could hold forum to discuss about improper use of recycle
bins and over consumption leading to great among of waste produced. Student

ambassadors could lead other schoolmates in paying attention in environmental
conservation, especially recycling and reducing over consumption. Through organizing

student ambassadors, more students could take initiative to increase recycling and
prevent over consumption. The environmental awareness of schoolmates could

                       therefore be enhanced.

4.1.2 Setting targets and offering incentives in school

Setting key performance index (KPI) could set target and provide incentive for all
members of the school and practice environmentally friendly lifestyles. Inside school,

competitions and records should be organized and classes meeting different records can

gain a better score and get prize as reward.

Regarding the low use rate of recycle bins, targets should be set for each class. Recently,

it is observed that most of the waste paper is directly disposed to rubbish bins, but not
recycle bins. Every class should record how heavy waste paper is recycled, the class

with highest recycle rate could receive book vouchers.

Regarding the problem of students not bringing their own food container and water

bottles, leading to excessive and large number of unrecyclable food boxes and plastic
water bottles disposed, the accessibility of plastic recycling bins and food waste

processing machine should be improved. For example, the ‘well’ water refilling
machine is located at 7/F, which has no classrooms, leading to only around 400 times

of usage recorded, while the food waste processing machine is located in a hidden
