Commissioner Moore also spoke with the press about the receipt
$1,267,000 to incorporate more technology into the DDS service op-
tions. The Department plans to purchase 15 license kiosks for its cus-
tomer service centers. The machines are similar to 53 already in use for
tag renewal at some grocery stores and tag offices around the state.
The kiosks take pictures and print temporary licenses and permits for
people seeking to renew their current credentials. DDS will be able
to partner with the Department of Revenue (DOR) to join their kiosk
program already establushed at the grocery stores.
This is another time saving option for customers. Many times, a cus-
tomer does not want to use our remote services if they are already at a
center. Having self-service kiosk option will save wait time for custom-
ers.
The addition of kiosks does not mean that the number of driver ex-
aminers will be reduced. It does mean that examiners will be able
to assist those customers that can not use remote services in a more
efficient manner.
Thirteen of the 15 kiosks the department wishes to place at its cus-
tomer service centers would be in the metro Atlanta area where the
largest demand is. The planned locations include: Alpharetta, Atlanta,
Cumming, Decatur, Fayetteville, Forest Park, Gainesville, Kennesaw,
Lawrenceville, Lithonia, Locust Grove, Macon, Marietta, Norcross and
Savannah.
