Honoring Joe Courchaine
On Friday, March 4th, the first bench placed on
the Cricket Frog Trail in honor of an individual was
dedicated. Joe Courchaine of Covington, passed in
February 2021, and his friends and colleagues at
the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS)
honored his memory with a bench.
Joe enjoyed walking around town and especially
on the Cricket Frog Trail near his home. The bench
is located in a beautiful shady spot off Conyers
Street for his family, friends and the community to
enjoy. Putting the bench with a commemorative
plaque in place was a joint effort between Georgia
DDS, Newton Trails and the City of Covington.
The dedication celebration and ribbon cutting
were attended by the Courchaine Family, DDS staff,
Newton Trails representatives, long-time friends,
Lion’s Club members, and City representatives.
Speakers and vocalist were from the GA DDS and
Newton Trails.
Joe served in the Information Technology Depart-
ment at GA DDS for 20+ years and was integral in
many technology advances made during that time.
He was a beloved friend and talented chef to all
that knew him.
