Art at The Land
The Land is in the village of Mokatse, found along the Oodi to
Modipane road, 30 km northeast of Gaborone, and is where Nancy
lives and also offers workshops on various subjects, exhibitions,
lunches and short retreats.
The idea started in mid-2019, when Nancy decided instead of just an exhibition
featuring her art, to have food stalls and activities to engage and entertain the people.
The October 2019 ‘Through the Cracks’ exhibition went well, and that was the seed for
the next exhibition to occur. This biannual event, including other artists, was inspired by
the need to offer something more than just art, but also an opportunity to enjoy the day
out in a natural place, eat delicious vegan food, participate in activities and listen to talks
so that the whole experience is varied and meaningful.
‘Art at The Land’, was enjoyed on the 17th October 2020. This event included a total of
10 local and resident artists, with art varying from watercolour, oil, acrylic, mixed media,
charcoal, graphite, mosaic, sculpture and photography. The activities included a drumming
circle, a photography talk and a Contact Improvisation movement session. The food stalls
included Indian food, spring rolls and samosas, Morula and Mmilo drinks and slushies
and cakes, doughnuts and brownies.
More than 80 people came and participated in this lovely day, making it a great success
with everybody who enjoyed the simplicity of the venue and the opportunity to view art
and be in the pleasure of a beautiful day.
