3. The Covenant
“Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.” John 8:56
The old man, adrift in innumerable sands— Outnumbered by hope’s expanse— drowns moonwards in a star ocean.
With nebulous glance, eyes rejoicing
in the promised Son,
he lipreads, “Before Abraham was,
I AM.”
Find a grain of sand, or salt. Consider its size. Imagine if it got in your eye, how much it would hurt and irritate. It's also said that a grain of sand is all that's needed to start a pearl forming. Now imagine counting the grains of salt on a teaspoon, or the grains of sand in a bucket. Even those tasks would be very difficult.
Reread the poem. What do you see now?
Special word: Promise
Other Bible Passages: John 14:6
God’s covenant with us through Jesus;
Luke 22: 19-20 ...
"This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood."

4. The Sheep Pen
‘I am the good Shepherd. I know my own and my own know me.’ John 10:14
Keeping the wolf from the Door, the Shepherd calls;
bringing in his own
he shames the unsound staff
of pilfering crooks who came before. Laying down,
he wrests
a flock into his care
Have a look for a piece of wool, or a jumper or cardigan made of wool. Consider the care and skill it takes to turn a fleece into yarn, and then a knitted or crocheted garment.
Then consider the never-ending care of our Shepherd. We belong and are accepted by Him.
Special word: Shepherd
Other Bible Passages: Psalm 23; Psalm 28:9
Save your people whom you love, and bless your chosen ones. Be our shepherd leading us forward, forever carrying us in your arms! (The Passion Translation)
