We were at Aristocrat finalizing the ordering details for our 911 when Sue disappeared. This is not really unusual since she easily tires of the details of car shopping, unless it has to do with a Mini Cooper. We found her behind the wheel of a Macan in the showroom. When I opened the door, she said with an ear to ear grin, “I like this!” That’s where it started.
A year later, we ordered a Macan GTS and began planning for an early April delivery at Stuttgart. Porsche had closed the Stuttgart delivery location due to the Mission E plant construction, but promised to begin Stuttgart deliveries in the first quarter of 2018, so an April delivery seemed safe enough. Imagine our surprise when we heard through several Porsche blogs that all European deliveries had been cancelled. Sure enough, the Euro delivery option had disappeared from the “Configurator.” Following several weeks of high anxiety, Porsche announced the resumption of Euro delivery. Whew, now to organize flights, finalize lodging arrangements, and route planning details. (Slide of Euro Delivery Package)
On 8 April, we were off to O’Hare with our small carry-ons filled with clothes for the chilly, rainy German Spring weather. After relaxing in the lounge, we boarded our Lufthansa 747 and settled in for the flight.
There was a lot of turbulence over the Atlantic, so it wasn’t easy to sleep.
