  weekend it would be!
The plane landed in sunny California right on time. I met Chad at his gate and we quickly caught up as we walked to baggage claim. Hailing an Uber, we were whisked away to try and find our ride for the weekend, a ’07 Boxster S. Twenty minutes later, there it was, parked on the side of the road as promised. What was not promised was the condition of the Boxster. Let’s just say it was a 10-footer. From 10 feet away, it looked awesome. Up close, it was showing quite a few scratches from its 106,000+ mile life. We quickly nicknamed her Scratchy. All kidding aside, Scratchy ran like a champ. Plenty of power when I wanted it, great clutch, nice manual gear box, and top that let in the California sun.
Hopping in, we headed to the coast. This Kansas flatlander needed to see the ocean. There is something refreshing about the combination of sunshine and sea air. It was not long before we were ready for lunch and stopped at the first Mexican restaurant we could find.
The plan was for everyone to meet for dinner at Turn 12. It is a local favorite restaurant dedicated to the racing enthu- siast, with classic wood steering wheels on the walls and motorcycles from the ‘50s and ‘60s in the entryway. Soon greetings and introductions were made followed by a wonderful meal. The con- versation focused on ‘our strategy’ for the next few days. We decided that for day one we’d let the girls shop, while the
