panhandle. The views were stunning. Our drive ended in historic Wallace, Idaho, where we toured the Sierra Silver Mine and the Northern Paci c Railroad Museum. As we made our way back to Spokane, we stopped at Lake Couer d’Alene to admire the view.
Thursday evening was Kids Night Out. Parade Kids is a big part of Parade with daily activities for kids and kids at heart. Through- out the week, Parade Kids had a pool party, several make-and-take craft projects, a scav- enger hunt, a Parade Kids Concours featur- ing wooden cars painted by the kids, and an Any-Cross, where the kids raced anything from tricycles, to ride-on Porsches, to their own strollers through a miniature autocross course. During the Concours and Victory Banquets, Parade Kids hosts dinner and movie nights. Even the Michelin Man hung out at Parade Kids! On Thursday each year, Parade Kids does a night out. This year, we jumped at a local trampoline park until we were exhausted.
Friday morning gets off to an early start with the Tech Quiz. People actually get up early to take a test during their summer vaca- tion. If you know a lot about Porsches and their parts, this is the event for you. The Tech Quiz is followed by the Tech Academy.
Friday evening is the Michelin Late Apex Banquet, where awards are presented for Autocross and Parade Kids Events.
Saturday is the last day of Parade. It be- gins with a 5k Walk/Run. This year’s 5k fol- lowed the Spokane River.
Saturday is also the Volunteers’ Lunch. PCA is fueled by volunteers, and Parade would not happen without the many vol- unteers who give up a few hours of their vacation time. Volunteering at Parade is a great way to meet people from other Re- gions. Volunteer shifts are two-hours long, and there is an abundance of jobs to choose from. You can help staff the Welcome Tent or Information Booth. You can serve on the
hydration team and delivered bottled water and ice to the various events. You can work in the Goodie Store. You can help time and score events. I’ve always spent my volun- teer hours with Parade Kids, even before I had one of my own. If you work two volun- teer shifts, PCA treats you to lunch on Sat- urday, where you also get a chance to win many great prizes. If you plan on attending Parade next year, I encourage you to volun- teer.
The highlight of Parade is the parade itself. Attendee Porsches are rst lined up for the annual photograph, and then we set off on our Parade of Porsches.
Parade ends Saturday evening with the Reliable Carriers Victory Banquet. The results of the Tech Quiz were announced. The President’s Parade Trophy and the PCA Public Service Awards are awarded. The Parade Long Distance Award is also given, which goes to the person who drove their Porsche the furthest to get to Parade. The grand prize is also given out. Names are drawn at the end of each banquet for differ- ent prizes – anything from hats, to Porsche Design luggage, to trips to the Porsche Ex- perience Center. This year, the Grand Prize was an all-expenses paid trip to Porsche AG in Stuttgart.
This is only an overview of the things you can do at Parade. There were many other activities: dinner cruises on Lake Couer d’Alene, driving tours, beer tasting, wine tasting, a painting class, a martini mixology class, a golf tournament, and more.
Next summer, Parade heads to Osage Beach, Missouri, from July 8-14, 2018. If you have never attended Parade, I encourage you to do so. Parade holds so many special moments and memories for me. I hope it will for you too.
