STAR PERFORMERS
Efrem Kleinman & Grace Guas – Nuclear Medicine Technologists
Years ago, when Efrem and Grace were each going through the CT portion of their Nuclear
Medicine education, they could not have imagined that one day they would be called upon to assume the
role of a CT technologist. However, that is exactly what happened when the coronavirus pandemic
caused unforeseen and unpredictable shifts across healthcare. Around the globe, the response to these
shifts has been like building an airplane after it is already in the air. In situations of this type, a
department must be able to quickly pivot in order to handle the new obstacles in its path.
Efrem and Grace provided this almost instant flexibility. When called upon to help support the
critically understaffed CT department, neither Efrem nor Grace hesitated to dust off their CT
credentials and dive into a department struggling to keep its head above water. By the time the volumes
in CT began to climb beyond Pre-COVID levels, our two star performers were functioning as seasoned
CT technologists. Additionally, skills they honed in nuclear medicine paid dividends in their new roles as
their patient care skills continued to shine and their ability to start difficult IVs was relied on in many
occasions.
Even today, when the staffing in CT is sparse and the worklist is jam-packed, both Efrem and Grace
are still willing to jump in and lend a helping hand. This selfless dedication to the needs of the
department and the needs of our patients is what most demonstrates that Efrem and Grace are both
Star Performers.
