How does the $40 million campaign
support our mission?
Cal Maritime has launched LEADING THE WAY as part of a new strategic plan to ensure we deliver even greater impact for the maritime and other shoreside professions our graduates pursue. Cal Maritime’s mission is as complex as the industry it serves.
We are a teaching institution with a growing re- search presence, of value to both cadets and their future employers. The education and training provided is more than academically strong. It graduates young professionals who are workforce ready, with the hands-on skills and work experiences that make them immediately valuable to employers who operate in a dynamic and rapidly changing world.
Our curricula and instruction are informed by highly focused research which keeps the education relevant to the workforce needs of the maritime profession while providing actionable knowledge and new solutions to our research sponsors.
Cal Maritime invests deeply in preparing cadets
for leadership in their chosen elds. Cadets graduate with experience in self-learning, collaboration, problem- solving, and innovation. This dedicated learning opportunity is delivered in partnership with the
Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), a nationally prominent world-class institution.
Cal Maritime fuels the maritime profession, both seagoing and shoreside, with the ready and able talented professionals who are required to address new challenges and advance the reach and effectiveness of the profession across the globe.
Facing Future
Challenges

challenges for procurement, multi-modal transportation, logistics and management
• Succession planning as older employees retire in increasing numbers and the challenge of replacing them with workforce-ready new talent
• Continuing impact of rapid technology transfer and new teaching innovations for cadet curricula and training
• Effects of climate change on oceans and transportation routes
• Rising sea levels and the policy impact on national boundaries, climate refugees, and global security
• Increase in electric and autonomous vehicles (sea, air, land) and their impact on safety and import/export operations
• Continuing need for high-level cybersecurity applications and the workforce to provide it
• Complex international, national, and state regulatory environment

Centennial Campaign for Cal Maritime
CSU BELIEVES IN MY SUCCESS
Being a female in the engineering/shipping industry can be daunting at times, but Cal Maritime inspires and helps young women pursue this path. I’m honored to be chosen as the CSU Trustees’ Scholar from Cal Maritime and it’s encouraging to know that the CSU believes that I will be successful in this industry. Together, the Cal Maritime faculty, students, and administration create a welcoming learning environment. And that support continues after graduation with ready access to mentors and resources.
