Thursday 15 October
Thirlmere Marulan
A reasonable turnout but some were reluctant
about the planned dirt roads. We set out to
Thirlmere for mornos with about 15 riders
(one pillion) down the old highway, Appin Rd,
Broughton Pass, Douglas Park, Picton and then Phil Maguire | Manager | T 9521 2977
to Thirlmere. The bypass at Picton over the 24hr towing 9542 1000 | www.transpacificsmash.com.au
viaduct was being worked on after a stolen 80 Oak Road Kirrawee NSW 2232
truck jammed itself under the bridge a couple
of days previous. Otherwise a quick ride to from door to door) and we got to ride some
mornos to allow more time on the back roads different roads.
around Marulan.

After mornos we split into two groups. one
staying on tar and going down through
Bundanoon and such on the way to Marulan. They Tuesday 20 October
seemed to have enjoyed themselves and were
cheerful at lunch. Unfortunately a couple of Jamberoo
people disappeared during the confusion
between the two routes and the people heading
home after mornos. Hopefully all were well.
The other group headed off in search of dirt
roads. We went through Hill Top and down onto
the Hume and down to Suttons Forrest turnoff
(once again a short cut to save time). Again
unfortunately, two riders missed the turn off with
Norm catching us at Canyonleigh overpass but
Greg missed again and had to make his own way
to Marulan. Past Canyonleigh we finally hit the
dirt and started cruising. Good dirt road to
Brayton (except for the tar) then up to Big Hill and
across to Greenwich Park and down to Towrang
then back up Carrick Rd to Brayton then back
down Marulan. Coming into Marulan I blotted my
copybook and took a wrong turn but quickly fixed
with a U turn. A really good run although I was
surprised by how much of the road had been
tarred in recent years. Very nice scenery and the
Towrang Road is all tar and a very nice cruise but
be prepared to end up on a dirt road. Gerry left us
along the way to check out the Swallow tail track
to Taralgo. It's not every day you get a Tenere 700
to play with. We joined the rest of the group at
the Terminus Hotel and had a very good lunch
and conversation after which we headed back
home. (you don't have to go home but you do
have to go as the Blues Brothers said). Through
Tallong, Bundanoon, Moss Vale, Old South Rd the
Y towns, Broughton Pass and then to Heathcote
for goodbyes. We had to pull a bit early as a
couple of HWP vehicles had taked our usual spot.
We decided to be generous and not move them
on. All in all a good day’s run (I did about 450 km
