2 The Unforgettable Moments in Life

My students and I wanted to extend a special thanks to the following

contributors that helped make this project successful…

Angie Griener was instrumental throughout the process. She urged us to stay active and
involved when the project felt cumbersome or tiring. More than anything, she worked as out
devoted editor. This project would not have been possible without her unending assistance.
               Thank you!

Micheal Shepherd, principal at Lakeside, heard about this project and without hesitation
dove into supporting the students and me. He tolerated, with patience, multiple pop-ins, and a
long stream of questions., and approved the project for funding. Thank you!

Brian Johnson and Kris Groves had revolving doors that were always open for
collaboration and ideas. I can’t tell you how many times I or a student would find ourselves
popping in for a quick meeting to hear a voice of reason or find a solution. Their advice and aid
were instrumental in producing this project. Thank you!

Marsha Layer, Carlnis Jerry, and Marcina Langrine met with me at the start of this project
when it was still a messy set of ideas. They provided multiple community members to interview
               and inspire students. Thank you!

Melanie Carbine gave me a constant flow of ideas on how to improve the project and
make it purposeful. Through multiple digital meetings, she helped me fill in the gaps of the
project with mentor texts she collected herself and taught me a variety of Marshallese terms to
watch out for in class. Thank you!

Lastly, I want to thank the teachers, students, parents, family members, and community
members that sat through awkward interviews as my students learned the process. I thank you for
honoring us by sharing your stories, and your history with us. The project was made possible
only through your willingness and understanding of the importance of education. Know that your

opinions, stories, and histories truly matter. Thank you!
