Toothpaste

• Toothpaste, also called dentifrice, is essential to daily oral hygiene routine.
• They are pastes, gels or powders that help remove plaque, a film of bacteria

   that forms on teeth and gums.
• It improves the mechanical brushing and cleaning power of a toothbrush.

• Toothpaste ingredients:

   1) Abrasive:
      o Mild abrasives to remove debris and residual surface stains.
      o Examples: calcium carbonate, dehydrated silica gels, hydrated aluminum
          oxides, magnesium carbonate, phosphate salts and silicates.

   2) Fluoride:
      o It strengthens tooth enamel and remineralize tooth decay.

   3) Humectants:
      o They prevent water loss in the toothpaste. Examples include glycerol,
          propylene, glycol and sorbitol.

   4) Thickening agents:
