What are the Best
Products to Keep Your

  Vinyl Looking New?

We see a lot of old vinyl around the lake, so I
thought we should have some expert advice on
care & maintenance. I spoke with Rob Kotowski,
owner of Lake Shore Boat Top, and he was kind
enough to write the following article for us.

As a marine fabricator and boat owner, I try to educate
my customers on ways to maintain and care for their
new yacht enclosures or even simple canvas repairs.
I see many boat owners who have “browned out” or
cracked windows on their canvas enclosures through-
out many marinas we work in as we walk up and down
the docks. These windows are a large part of your can-
vas enclosure and need to be cared for to extend the life
of your canvas or it can be a costly replacement item.

One of the easiest ways to care for your clear vinyl
windows is simply keeping them clean and polished
with the proper cleaner. Do NOT use Windex, alcohol
based or harsh cleaners to clean your clear vinyl win-
dows. Many marine stores, including our office, car-
ry a wide variety of window cleaners & polish that will
help maintain and care for your windows. Make sure
you are using the proper cleaner that is recommended
for the specific type of windows you have. If you are
unsure what type of glass you have, you can bring your
windows in to our facility, we can look at the product
you have, and provide you the proper cleaner for your
windows.

There are many types of clear vinyls on the market that
can be used for boat enclosures, and each vinyl win-
dow product has their Continued on page 44... win

    Macomb County Marine Sheriff’s office
           Sergeant Bednard reminds us:

No arms or legs should be hanging over
the side of your boat at any speed.

This is considered reckless driving and will
             require a court appearance.
