BUSH POETRY COMPETITION
ENTRIES NOW OPEN
Our Bush Poetry Competition is going online this year and en-
tries are now open! The online competition gives exhibitors an
opportunity to showcase their talents, despite the cancellation
Bush Camp of the 2020 Ekka due to coronavirus (COVID-19) social distanc-
ing measures and public gathering restrictions.
Poets of all ages are invited to submit a recording of themselves
By The Leichhardt performing their best original or favourite established poem

I left this land and the bushman’s life to join the growing crowd
Who’d packed their swags and pulled up stakes for the bigger cities
bound
But when I settled in the south there’s a few things that I missed
The Leichhardt and the camps I made were favourites on the list
The years I spent in the big smoke were happy and worthwhile
And all the times that I was there were always spent in style
But when I came back to the west I found it truly has
A life so full that nothings want for spending carefree days
Yes the only sound that you can hear is the calling of the bush
It’s a life that’s full of nature’s best that a man could ever wish
Where the kangaroo and emu roam in freedom seldom found
A place where I can stop to rest and gladly call my home
Although the years had hurried by I hoped with heart aware
That the Leichhardt hadn’t changed much, it’s character still there
And returning to the place where I always used to go
I found fond memories were still there and it’s beauty all on show
