A Long Walk to Water Situation Analysis
Salva does not really overcome his fear. He just considers it and moves on. His uncle got him to move on by
helping him get through his day-to-day life. I myself have not experienced such fear in my life, but I have
encountered fear. When I was 6 years old, I fell from a tall rack and
landed on my back, that pounded the breath out of me. I was so
shocked and scared that I started being very cautious and had a
phobia of heights! Then it all changed when I went to Chandragiri
hills. I went on the well-known cable car and I was having so much
fun! I realized that heights are not so bad after all but I’m still a little
bit conscious.
Back to Salva’s story: Salva has to believe that he will someday
meet his family but he is uncertain if they are even alive. Salva
has been assured by his uncle that he should only think about the
present situation and not the past or the future. Uncle has been his
only emotional support and to get through his emotional damage.
Even though Uncle is dead Salva still remembers his words and gets
motivation from them. Salva helps other
boys later on too by telling them uncle’s
words and helping them to move on.
Salva truly let’s go of his fear when he
lives with his family in America.
