Unity Initiative Unity Initiative Unity Initiative What opportunities does the Unity Initiative (fka Unity Fund) provide beyond healing? That’s easy: families are able to remain intact and some of the parent’s overwhelming financial worries are alle- viated. The Unity Initiative truly is such a blessing to so many families, like Zi Fan’s family (right). Zi Fan’s mother is disabled so his father is the sole provider for their family of four and they survive on less than $500 per month. The family did manage to save and borrow enough to pay thousands of dollars in initial hospital bills but Zi Fan needed another surgery. Financially this family was out of options and hope until LWB was able to step in. Thanks to LWB supporters Zi Fan’s parents will have the privilege of watching their son grow to be a strong, responsible young man—just like his father. And then there is our feisty little Miss Hannah-Banana. This little girl was included in our 2014 Cleft Medical Mission at the last minute. She has a very rare type of cleft called a Transverse Cleft. Her family home in- cludes 3 walls and some plastic bags for a family of five. Thankfully LWB, through the wonderful support of our Unity Initiative, helped Hannah receive a new smile (with a cute little dimple, thrown in at no charge). Isn’t she absolutely beautiful!! Imagine the relief her mama feels knowing her daughter will have a better future and will be more accepted in society because of the help of complete strangers!
