P. 6

Set Two (45 mins)
 13. PASS THE PARCEL (if requested): ‘Papa Mama Loca Pipa’ performed by The Minions
See the Pass the Parcel instructions on the Sparkles Resources page of the website for details on how to play our version of Pass the Parcel.
14. MINION SAYS*
Tell the children you hope they haven’t forgotten about minions whilst eating all that delicious tea! Tell them that you are going to test them again by playing a game a bit like ‘Simon Says’ called ‘MINION Says’. If you say “MINION SAYS touch your toes” then they must copy you and touch their toes, but if you don't say “MINION SAYS” and simply say “touch your toes” then they must remain still! Start with some easy instructions like: “MINION SAYS touch your toes/spin around/hug a friend/jump/clap” and remove the “MINION SAYS” whenever you see fit! Then move onto some minion themed actions, such as eat a banana/play the guitar/ride in a rocket ship/do ballet (like Gru’s daughters)/ride a motorbike/do the YMCA etc. You may need to demonstrate the minion actions before including them in the game.
15. CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE TWO: ‘Y.M.C.A.’ performed by The Minions
Click on song name to open the video in YouTube
“It’s time for me to teach you every minion’s favourite dance!” Hand each child a coloured scarf, go through the tricky moves, practice getting into a conga line and then play the track and perform the dance as in the video.
16. CHASING GAME*: ‘Catch the Minions!’ (sung to the traditional tune of ‘Tiny Tim’)
Put on your posh teacher’s voice. “And now I’m going to teach you how to become a real minion, just like me! I am the teacher and you are my students. Follow me.” Sing the song acapella and perform the actions as indicated by the lyrics.
“To be like a real minion, you must know how to build clever machines.”
The minions are building, the minions are building, the minions are building, in the minions class.
“Everyone knows that minions love to eat apples and bananas!”
The minions are eating, the minions are eating, the minions are eating, in the minions class.
“And of course, to be like a real minion you must be very good at dancing!”
The minions are dancing...
“Now I’m going to be Gru and chase you and see how many minions I can catch!” Chase the children as you sing the final verse.
Gru is chasing...
Ask the birthday boy/girl if they would like to be Gru next. If they say no, choose someone with their hand up who managed to escape you. Remind the next Gru that when you sing “Gru is chasing” they must catch as many minions as possible. Repeat and then choose a child who “managed to escape” to be the next Gru (otherwise they’ll all just be caught on purpose). Repeat as many times as necessary (for example if there is no pass the parcel and/or not many children you may get through the activities quickly and so extend this one, or if you are running behind you could perform the activity just two or three times).
17. MUSICAL BUMPS (without egg shakers): ‘Rescue me’ performed by Fontella Bass
Ask the children if they know the game ‘Musical Bumps’. Tell them we’re going to play a game just like it. “Does anyone know the name of the baddie who kidnaps Gru’s daughters? That’s right, Vector! And the minions and Gru have to fly into space to rescue them!” Tell the children that as the music plays they’re going to fly around the room in their space rockets but when the music stops it means there’s an asteroid coming and they must jump back down to earth as quickly as they can (demonstrate jumping down and curling up as you say this). Do not eliminate children or make anyone ‘out’. Rather, tell them that you will be watching carefully and if they jump down to earth when the music stops, then they will all get some magic sparkles at the end of the party! Play the track and the children fly their rocket ships all around the room. Pause the music sporadically and the children jump down to the floor. At the end of the game, congratulate the children on doing a great job at rescuing Gru’s daughters! Then tell them they’ve all won some magic sparkles that you will give them at the end of the party.
