Lesson Plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles See spring lesson one.
* Running time approx. 2 mins.
2. Stretching and curling: Elephants Spraying Water See spring lesson one.
* Running time approx. 3 mins.
3. Travel to Danceland: ‘Pegleg Pete’ performed by Brandon Fiechter See spring lesson one.
* Running time approx. 4 mins.
4. Introduce the theme: ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ written by Anne Porter Without speaking, get the children into a circle by singing ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ as in spring lesson one.
Reach into your sparkly bag and take out a picture of a woman in your life that you would like to thank on Mother’s Day. Ask the children to guess who is in the picture. Ask them if they know which special day is coming up. Nominate volunteers to suggest special things we can do for our mummies, aunties or grandmas to make them feel special on Mother’s Day (e.g. make a card, cook them breakfast, draw a picture etc.). Lead the group in quickly acting out each suggestion whilst seated.
* Running time approx. 3 mins.
5. Fine motor skills: ‘I like to Squeeze Bananas’ written by unknown Squeeze hands together, alternating your clasp to the pulse, for the first three lines. Give yourself a cuddle for the last line. You can also encourage the children to cuddle a friend or their mum (or other special woman in their life) if they are in the session.
I like to squeeze bananas,
I like to squeeze plums.
I like to squeeze everything, Especially my mum!
Perform two more times, encouraging the children to say the words with you. Change the word “mum” to “aunt” on the first repeat and to “gran” on the second repeat.
* Running time approx. 2 mins.
