Page 5 - Moana
P. 5
“Now I’m going to be the lava demon and chase you and see how many Moanas I can catch!” Chase the children as you sing the final verse.
The lava demon’s chasing...
Ask the birthday boy/girl if they would like to be the next lava demon. If they say no, choose someone with their hand up who managed to escape you. Remind the next lava demon that when you sing “The lava demon’s chasing” they must catch as many Moanas as possible. Repeat and then choose a child who “managed to escape” to be the next lava demon (otherwise they’ll all just be caught on purpose). Repeat as many times as necessary (for example if there is no pass the parcel and/or not many children you may get through the activities quickly and so extend this one, or if you are running behind you could perform the activity just two or three times).
11. PASS THE PARCEL: ‘Logo Te Pate’ performed by Olivia Foa’i, Opetaia Foa’i, and Talaga Steve Sale
Make it clear to the children before you play the game that “everybody gets a turn.” Play the track and the children pass the parcel around in a circle. Please note that the track is quite short so you may have to have it on repeat. When you pause the music, the child holding the parcel opens a layer and keeps the gift inside. Use a remote control to pause the music so you can help the younger children pass the parcel and open it when it is their turn. The children can eat their treat, put it in their pocket or give it to an adult to mind so that it does not distract them from the rest of the party.
12. ACTION GAME: ‘Moana’
Moana = spin around with arms out to side and sing “And no one knows how far I’ll go” Maui = pull a muscle pose and sing “You’re welcome!”
Lava demon = find a friend or two to hug and scream “Ahh!”
Tamatoa = sing ‘Shiny’, pull a silly face and make crab pincers
Motunui is saved! = jump up and down as you say “Yay!”
a) “To be like Moana you have to be very clever so now we’re going to play a game to see how strong and clever your brains are today. Every time I say “Moana” you have to remember to sing, “And no one knows how far I’ll go”. Demonstrate the action listed above as you say the words. Then, you say “Moana” and the children spin around with their arms out to the side as they sing, “And no one knows how far I’ll go”. Practice several times.
b) One by one add in the rest of the characters listed above. Make sure to mix up the order in which you are saying the character names as you teach the game.
c) d)
e)
At first, do all the actions and sounds with the children.
When they have got the hang of it, you tell them you are now watching to see if they can be really clever and remember all of the sounds and actions without your help.
Lots of energy!
13. CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE TWO: ‘How Far I’ll Go’ performed by Auli’i Cravalho
Click on song name to open the video in YouTube.
“Who can tell me what Moana’s magic power is? That’s right, she has magic water powers. I’m going to give you all a scarf to be the magic water and teach you a very special dance! Give each child a coloured scarf. Go through the tricky moves first then play the track and perform the dance as in the video.
14. GIVE THE BIRTHDAY CARD: ‘Happy Birthday’ by Traditional
Give the birthday boy/girl their card, read it aloud and sing the traditional ‘Happy Birthday’ song acapella.
1 5 . B U B B L E S : ‘Where You Are’ performed by Christopher Jackson, Rachel House, Nicole Scherzinger, Auli'i Cravalho and Louise Bush
Play the song and use your bubble machine to create lots of bubbles for the children to pop. You should dance as you do this.
16. PRIZES: ‘We Know the Way’ performed by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Opetaia Foa'i
Play the track and give each child some magic sparkles and a Haribo treat. Once you’ve packed up remember to ask the parents if you can put a party flyer in each of the party bags and if you can have a photo with the birthday child.
