Term One Lesson ten: Easter
Props Required
Music player, music speaker, sparkly magic bag, hot cross bun laminate, egg shakers, bunny ears, rabbit hand puppet and magic sparkles
Lesson Plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles See term one lesson one. Make sure to use lots of energy!

2. Stretching and curling: Hedgehogs See term one lesson one.

3. Travel to Danceland: ‘Thomas the Tank Engine Theme’ performed by The Little ‘uns
Tell the children that today you will be getting the Thomas train to Danceland. Act out buying the tickets (you could ask an adult in the room to be the ticket seller). Find the train and climb aboard. You be the driver. Play the music and encourage the children to follow you as you move about the room like a train. Your arms are the pistons and you move them (and your feet) in time with the pulse. Chant “chugga, chugga, chugga, chugga, chugga, chugga, woo woo!” in time with the music, making sure to blow the horn!

4. Introduce the theme: ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ written by Anne Porter Without speaking, get the children into a circle by singing ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ as in term one lesson one.
Ask the children if they know which special holiday is coming up. Tell them you are going to decorate some special Easter eggs. Ask volunteers to choose the size of the eggs, which colours to paint them and which materials to decorate them with (e.g. glitter, feathers, dried pasta, beads, string etc.). Act out painting and decorating the eggs as each suggestion is given.

5. Fine motor skills: ‘Hot Cross Buns’ (traditional)
N.B. This is a different version of the ‘Hot Cross Buns’ activity seen in other Lucy Sparkles & Friends plans.
Reveal bun laminate. "Today we are going to make hot cross buns." Pour all of the ingredients (flour, sugar, salt, yeast, butter, egg, milk, sultanas and cinnamon) into a big bowl. Stir the ingredients to the pulse using right pointer finger as you sing the first verse acapella once. Repeat using your left pointer finger.
