Lesson Plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles
See weekly drama activity break down for video and instructions. Make sure to use lots of energy!
* Running time approx. 1 min 45 secs.
2. Focus activity: ‘Yes We Can’ written by Unknown
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions.
* Running time approx. 3 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
3. Travel to Storyland
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions.
* Running time approx. 4 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
4. Introduce the theme
“Let’s take a look in the sparkly magic bag and see what clue there is for today’s story.” Take out the eagle laminate. Ask the children the following questions.
a) “What is this animal called?”
b) “Where do eagles live (e.g. eagles live in nests that they build near water like
rivers, lakes and the beach).”
c) “What sound do they make?”
d) “Let’s all make an eagle sound and flap our wings!”
e) Askavolunteertosuggestanotheranimalthatfliesinthesky(e.g.parrot,pigeon,
seagull, blackbird, vulture etc.). You act out being the suggested animal (using upper body) and the children copy you. Repeat using ideas from three more volunteers.
* Running time approx. 2 mins 30 secs.
5. Action song or poem: ‘Bluebird, Bluebird’ (traditional)
Select two children to be the ‘window’. They face each other, hold hands and raise their arms up to make a window. You demonstrate running through the window and around to the front of the window again. Tell the children to make line behind you. Sing the song once and everyone runs through the window (in the same direction) until the song finishes (so they may run under multiple times depending on numbers). Either lead the children through the window or help the children who are the window to keep steady.
Bluebird, bluebird through my window. Bluebird, bluebird through my window. Bluebird, bluebird through my window. What a lovely day for flying.
