3. Travel to Storyland
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions.
* Running time approx. 4 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
4. Introduce the theme
“Let’s take a look in the sparkly magic bag and see what clue there is for today’s story.” Take out the monkey mask. Ask the children the following questions.
a) “What is this animal called?”
b) “Where do monkeys live?”
c) “What sound do they make?”
d) “Let’s swing through the trees and make monkey sounds!”
e) Ask a volunteer to suggest another animal that lives in the jungle (e.g. tree frog,
snake, tiger, sloth, parrot, crocodile etc.). You act out being the suggested animal (using upper body) and the children copy you. Repeat using ideas from three more volunteers.
* Running time approx. 2 mins 30 secs.
5. Action song or poem: ‘Five Little Crocs’ (adapted from ‘Five Little Ducks Went Swimming One Day’, traditional)
Click activity name to open YouTube video link.
Say the rhyme and do the actions as seen in the video. Put the crocodile puppet on one hand and hide it behind your back. Hold up five fingers of other hand to be the five little crocs.
Five little crocs went swimming one day, (move the hand with ‘five little crocs’ side to side)
Swishing their tails along the way, (big swishing action with same arm)
The daddy croc said, ‘SNAP, SNAP, SNAP, SNAP’, (reveal crocodile puppet on first ‘SNAP’ and hide behind back again after the fourth)
But only four little crocs came back. (tuck one ‘little croc’ [finger] away) One, two, three, four. (count remaining fingers)
