Lesson Plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles

* Running time approx. 1 min 45 secs.
2. Focus activity: ‘Yes We Can’ written by Unknown

3. Travel to Storyland
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions.
* Running time approx. 4 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
4. Introduce the theme
“Let’s take a look in the sparkly magic bag and see what clue there is for today’s story.” Take out the ladybird finger puppet. Ask the children the following questions.
a) “What is this animal called?”
b) “Where do ladybirds live (e.g. garden, trees, grass, flowers, plants etc.)?”
c) “Ladybirdsaresotinythatwecanhardlyhearthem.Let’sguesswhatsoundthey
might make.” Ask a volunteer to invent a ladybird sound.
d) “Let’s all make a ladybird sound and move our whole bodies like ladybirds!”
e) “Because ladybirds are so tiny, we call them minibeasts.” Ask a volunteer to tell
you the name of another minibeast (e.g. spider, ant, caterpillar, beetle, worm etc.). You act out being the suggested minibeast (using upper body) and the children copy you. Repeat using ideas from three more volunteers.
* Running time approx. 2 mins 30 secs.
5. Action song or poem: ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ (traditional)
a) “Let’s turn our hands into spiders.” Sing the song acapella with the well known actions.
b) "Now it's time for us to become Incy Wincy. Take out your magic wands and after ‘one, two, three abracadabra’, we’re all going to turn into giant spiders. One, two, three abracadabra!” Everyone stands up. During the first line, mime climbing up the water spout. As you sing ‘washed the spider out’, jump to the floor and lie down. During the third line, wake up with a stretch. During the final line, climb back up the water spout.
c) “We’re starting to feel tired after all that climbing!” Repeat actions from activity b at a much slower tempo.
d) "It's getting late. We need to climb up the spout really quickly before it's dark." Repeat actions from activity b at a much quicker tempo.
