3. Travel to Storyland

* Running time approx. 4 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
4. Introduce the theme
“Let’s take a look in the sparkly magic bag and see what clue there is for today’s story.” Take out egg laminate (or hard-boiled egg brought from home). Ask the children the following questions.
a) “What is this?”
b) Ask a volunteer to suggest an animal that hatches from an egg (e.g. bird,
dinosaur, fish, snake, duck, goose, turtle, frog, lizard, crocodile, chicken etc.). You act out being the animal (using upper body) and the children copy you. Repeat using ideas from three more volunteers.
c) “And what sound does an egg make when it hatches?” Listen to all the suggestions.
d) “Let’s all hatch from an egg and make the sound together.” Use a sound from the children’s suggestions.
* Running time approx. 2 mins 30 secs.
5. Action song or poem: ‘Little Eggs’ written by Lucy Milan Davis
The children curl up as eggs on the floor, then chant the rhyme as they tap the pulse on the floor.
All:
Little eggs, little eggs, What shall we be? Little eggs, little eggs, Let’s hatch and see!
Teacher:
Let’s all be chickens!
