3. GET THE CHILDREN INTO A CIRCLE: ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ written by Anne Porter Without speaking, get the children into a circle by singing the following song acapella:
Let’s make a circle,
A circle a circle.
Let’s make a circle,
At insert Child’s Name’s birthday party.
Repeat until everyone is in a circle. Please use this song every time you need the children in a circle throughout the duration of the party.
4. WISHING SONG: ‘Starlight Starbright’ by Traditional
“Let’s see what I have in my sparkly magic bag today.” Reveal magic wand. “What’s this? What does a magic wand do? Today I’m going to show you how you can use it to wish for things that will make us just like Emma and The Wiggles! You can wish for a yellow bow, ballet shoes, a drum kit or a big red car to be just like Emma, a guitar to be like Anthony, a keyboard to be like Lachy or even a pirate sword to be like Captain Feathersword! First you need to learn the special wishing song and it goes like this.” Point your wand to different children to the pulse as you sing the song acapella.
All:
Starlight, starbright,
First star I see tonight.
Wish I may, wish I might, Have this wish I wish tonight.
You: Birthday girl/boy, (insert Child’s Name) what’s your wish?
(you may need to give some suggestions)
Child: I wish for ballet shoes. (the child invents their own wish)
You: (spoken) Now, let’s all say “One, two, three abracadabra”!
All (spoken): One, two three, abracadabra! (the children wave their imaginary wands)
Repeat several times as above, except for at the end of each verse when you ask the children to put their hand up if they would like to make a wish. You then sing “Hello, what’s your wish?” to a child that has their hand up. If you have more than ten children, you could try asking a few children at a time (at the end of each verse before saying “one, two, three abracadabra”) to speed up the activity. If you have more than 20 children you can ask everyone that hasn’t had a turn to shout their wish out at once.
5. CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE ONE: ‘Toot Toot, Chugga Chugga, Big Red Car’ performed by The Wiggles
Click on song name to open the video in YouTube.
“Does anyone know what kind of a car Emma drives? That’s right, she drives a big, red car! And now I’m going to teach you how to do the Big Red Car dance!” Practise the tricky moves, play the track and perform the dance as in the video.
6. PARACHUTE ACTIVITY WITH TOY/S ON TOP: ‘Emma Jumps Like a Ballerina’ (tune of ‘Two Teddies on a Trampoline’ written by Linda Bance)
“Let’s take a look in my sparkly magic bag to see what we’re going to do next!” Reveal the Emma soft toy. “Who’s this? This is my Emma Wiggle doll and she can jump really high like a ballerina! So let’s make her jump really high on my parachute!” Explain that first they must practice a special song with the imaginary parachute and that if everyone listens really well then you will take out the real parachute. Sing the song and move your arms up and down in time with the pulse.
Emma jumps like a ballerina, Boing, boing, boing, boing. Emma jumps like a ballerina, Boing, boing, boing.
“Now we’ll use the real parachute and if everyone listens well, I’ll put my Emma doll on top!” Repeat the song as before, but the group holds the edges of the real parachute, moving it up and down to the pulse.
Place your Emma soft toy on top of the parachute and repeat the song.
