Play the track and perform actions as indicated by the lyrics. Make sure to use lots of energy!
* Running time approx. 1 min 45 secs.
2. Focus activity: ‘Yes We Can’ written by Unknown
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions.
* Running time approx. 3 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
3. Travel to Storyland
See weekly drama activity break down for instructions.
* Running time approx. 4 mins (‘Let’s make a Circle’ should take a MAXIMUM of 30 seconds).
4. Introduce the theme
“Let’s take a look in the sparkly magic bag and see what clue there is for today’s story.” Take out the picture of a house. Ask the children the following questions.
a) “What is in this picture?”
b) “Not all homes are the same. Some people live in flats, some people live on farms
with lots of animals, some people live in giant tents and some people even live in homes made from ice. Some homes are very big and some homes are very small.” Ask two volunteers to tell you what their home is like. You may need to prompt them by asking more specific questions like, “What rooms are there in your home?”
c) Point to the doorknocker. “What’s this?” What sound does it make?” Everyone pretends to knock on a door and makes a knocking sound.
d) Point to doorbell. “What’s this?” Mime pressing a doorbell and making a doorbell sound.
e) “Would anyone like to show me what their doorbell sounds like?” Choose a volunteer who pretends to press a doorbell as they make a doorbell sound. Next, everyone copies. Repeat using doorbell sounds from three more volunteers.
* Running time approx. 2 mins 30 secs.
5. Action song or poem: ‘I have a Little House’ written by Unknown
Say the poem and do the suggested actions in time with the pulse each time you say “like this, like this, like this”. The poem is simple and repetitive so the children should naturally start joining in with you. Repeat the poem if there is time. As the poem ends on a repeat of the first verse, you can go straight into verse two rather than repeating verse one again.
The first verse is spoken with a very quiet voice and with tiny actions.
