6. Choreographed dance: ‘Caterpillar Conga’ performed by Tim Russ & Jedda Roskilly

Reveal an egg shaker. Explain to the children that they will each get one but that they must practise with an imaginary egg shaker first. Tell them if they listen well they will all get one. Teach the tricky moves first, then hand each child an egg shaker, play the track and perform the dance all together, using the choreography from the video. *Running time approx. 5 mins.
7. Action song: ‘There’s a Tiny a Caterpillar on a Leaf’ (tune of ‘She’ll be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain’, traditional)
Ask the children to stand up and perform all four verses of the song, using the actions below.
There’s a tiny caterpillar on a leaf. (wiggle RH pointer on LH palm) Wiggle, wiggle, (wiggle whole body)
There's a tiny caterpillar on a leaf. (as before)
Wiggle, wiggle. (as before)
There's a tiny caterpillar, a tiny caterpillar, (wiggle RH pointer on LH palm) There's a tiny caterpillar on a leaf. (as before)

“Does anyone know what caterpillars eat?”
He will eat the leaves around him till he's full. (mime eating to pulse) Yum, yum!, (rub tummy twice)

“Does anyone know the name of the home the caterpillar builds to sleep in while he turns into a butterfly?”
A cocoon is what he's spinning for his home. (stand still) Spin, spin... (fast roly poly hands)
“And what does he turn into?”
He will be a butterfly and fly like this. (stand still) Flap, flap... (flap arms twice)

8. Working with Props: ‘Miroirs: I. Noctuelles - Le Papillons Noirs’ performed by Peter Schmalfuss
Hand each child a coloured scarf, play the track and lead them in the following activities:
a) Usingyourforearmsandtummies,wiggleacrossthefloorfromonesideoftheroom to the other as caterpillars (scarves as caterpillars’ colourful tummies).
b) When you get to the other side of the room, find some leaves to munch (scarves as leaves).
c) Draw large circles in the air with your scarves to spin your cocoons (scarves as cocoons).
d) “It’s time for us to go to sleep. When we wake up, we will be beautiful butterflies!” Wrap the cocoon (scarf) around your shoulders and lie down to sleep.
e) Onceeveryoneislyingdown,allcounttotenthenwakeup.
