14. FAIRY UNICORN SAYS*
Tell the children that you are going to test their rainbow and unicorn knowledge again by playing a game a bit like ‘Simon Says’ called ‘Fairy Unicorn Says’! If you say “FAIRY UNICORN SAYS touch your toes” then they must copy you and touch their toes, but if you don't say “FAIRY UNICORN SAYS” and simply say “touch your toes” then they must remain still! Start with some easy instructions like: “FAIRY UNICORN SAYS” touch your toes/spin around/hug a friend/jump/clap” and remove the “FAIRY UNICORN SAYS” whenever you see fit! Then move onto some rainbow or unicorn themed actions, such as draw a rainbow/slide down a rainbow/gallop like a unicorn/swish your tails etc. You may need to demonstrate the rainbow and unicorn actions before including them in the game.
15. CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE TWO: ‘Fly to Your Heart’ performed by Selena Gomez
Click on song name to open the video in YouTube.
“Some of the unicorns in Fairy Land use their magic to fly. So now I’m going to teach you the flying unicorns’ very favourite dance!” Give each child a coloured scarf. Go through the tricky moves first then play the track and perform the dance as in the video.
16. CHASING GAME*: ‘Catch the Unicorns!’ (sung to the traditional tune of ‘Tiny Tim’)
“And now you’re going to have a short unicorn lesson. I am your teacher Fairy Unicorn and you are my students. Follow me.” Sing the song acapella and perform the actions as indicated by the lyrics.
“Everyone knows that to be like unicorns, you must love eating glitter!”
The unicorns are eating, the unicorns are eating, the unicorns are eating, in the rainbow class.
“Everyone knows that unicorns are really good at galloping.”
The unicorns are galloping, the unicorns are galloping, the unicorns are galloping, in the rainbow class.
“And everyone knows that some unicorns use their magic to make them fly.”
The unicorns are flying, the unicorns are flying, the unicorns are flying, in the rainbow class.
The unicorns are sleeping... The unicorns are waking...
“Now I’m going to be the Naughty Unicorn Catcher and chase you and see how many unicorns I can catch!”
Chase the children as you sing the final verse.
The Unicorn Catcher’s chasing...
Ask the birthday boy/girl if they would like to be the next Unicorn Catcher. If they say no, choose someone with their hand up who managed to escape you. Remind the next Unicorn Catcher that when you sing “The Unicorn Catcher’s chasing” they must catch as many unicorns as possible. Repeat and then choose a child who “managed to escape” to be the next Unicorn Catcher (otherwise they’ll all just be caught on purpose). Repeat as many times as necessary (for example if there is no pass the parcel and/or not many children you may get through the activities quickly and so extend this one, or if you are running behind you could perform the activity just two or three times).
17. MUSICAL BUMPS: ‘Rescue Me’ performed by Fontella Bass
Ask the children if they know the game ‘Musical Bumps’. Tell them we’re going to play a game just like it! “One of my jobs as Fairy Unicorn is to rescue any unicorns who might be in danger.” Tell the children they are going to fly around the room like the brave Fairy Unicorn (demonstrate flying as you say this) and when the music stops they must jump down to Fairy Land to rescue a unicorn as quickly as they can (demonstrate jumping down to sit as you say this). Do not eliminate children or make anyone ‘out’. Rather, tell them that you will be watching carefully and if they jump down quickly when the music stops then they will all get some
magic sparkles at the end of the party! Play the track and the children fly around the
