Term Three Lesson Six: Father’s Day

Let’s Make a Circle I Love My Daddy
Music player, music speaker, sparkly magic bag, a picture of a man in your life that you would like to thank on Father’s Day (e.g. your dad/uncle/grandad etc.), coloured scarves, bubble machine and magic sparkles
Lesson Plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles See term three lesson one.

2. Stretching and curling: Elephants Spraying Water See term three lesson one.
* Running time approx. 3 mins.
3. Travel to Danceland: ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’ performed and written by Randy Newman
“It’s time for us to go to Danceland. Look around, there are lots of holes everywhere so we need to step hop over them.” Lead the children in practicing taking a slow step with right foot then a slow hop on right foot. Then taking a slow step with left foot then a slow hop on left foot. Repeat several times. Play the track and step hop to Danceland. Move slowly in time with the music (half time). This activity will prepare the children for skipping to Danceland later in the term.

4. Introduce the theme: ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ written by Anne Porter Without speaking, get the children into a circle by singing ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ as in term three lesson one.
Reach into your sparkly bag and take out a picture of a man in your life that you would like to thank on Father’s Day. Ask the children to guess who is in the picture. Ask them if they know which special day is coming up. Nominate volunteers to suggest special things we can do for our daddies, uncles and grandads to make them feel special on Father’s Day (e.g. make a card, cook them breakfast, draw a picture etc.). Lead the group in quickly acting out each suggestion whilst seated.

5. Fine motor skills: ‘Daddy’s Steps’ written by Unknown

Perform the rhyme three times, using the actions from the video. Change ‘Daddy’ to ‘Uncle’ on the first repeat and to ‘Grandad’ on the second repeat.
